Out-of-Band (OOB) authentication is a form of strong authentication that utilizes a communication channel other than the channel being accessed to provide a ‘something you have,’ second authentication factor. Examples of out-of-band communication channels include email, phone and mobile data connections used to transmit one-time passcodes.
By leveraging one-time passcodes transmitted over an out-of-band channel, enterprises can protect against unauthorized access and data breaches perpetrated through phishing, brute-force attacks, password guessing and database hacking. Gemalto’s suite of SafeNet Authentication Solutions support a range of out of band authentication methods that elevate identity assurance and enable reducing or eliminating the use of static passwords.
